Why trust this blog?
Because I know what it was like to have a good and bad childhood. Seeing kids from all different ages and coming from all walks of life has taught me the programming that kids need to be happy and intelligent. Lets go!
What was it like being a Teen kid growing up in the Greater Toronto Area, and Mississauga: What are things that current kids can do to have fun? These are questions I asked myself in my conquest to helping kids around the world get more involved have more fun !
Books
Teaching them to enjoy reading books about academics. Kids should be introduced to scientific concepts at a young age to foster the enthusiasm for the future!
TV? Entertainment?
They should never watch mainstream TV. Instead, introduce them to Bill Nye the science guy, The Magic School Bus, etc.,
Physical Activity and Programs (in and outside of school)
They should be introduced to volleyball, badminton, basketball, dance etc., at a young age and allowed to continue until older to foster the caring and passion for a subject. A kid to continues sports is a kid who is happier, more engaged in class, and happier.
Singing/Arts programs
The arts are one of the best ways of expressing yourself, and getting
Apply/Join for the free youth programs in their community
In Mississauga, there are Walmart at play programs, which offer free basketball drop ins. This is great for kids who just want to get some physical activity and is great to empower kids to get more active.
Also, the YMCA offers Teen Nights, for kids aged around 14-19 and they get free access to the pool and all facilities which is great for the physical activity aspect of need. Kids can be motivated to get better at sports by playing with like minded kids who care about their physical and mental health. You can distress and have a blast!
Be involved in Cadets
Cadets gives youth the opportunity to find a passion and get involved with the government's military by learning and developing the leadership needed to succeed, and just learn about the world around them. Cadets are free to join and make youth more involved in their community!
Volunteering for Non-for-profit Organizations
Food banks, Community Centers, Summer Camps need kids to help and
Volunteering and Attending the Community Events
Community BBQ's, marathons, tree plantings, city council meetings are great ways to gauge a kids interest in the world around them. there should be no age limit for kids who want to make a difference in the world. Girl Guides is also great for little kids.
Playing with kids at the park and in the street
Making new friends that live close by is great! Sleepovers, park play etc., is just a step away! Who needs to limit themselves to school friends when the neighbor kids are just next-door?
Giving to others young!
Kids need to learn to share and give back. they should be encouraged to help their community by recycling, hosting lemonade stands fro charity, volunteering fro girl guides events, cadets events, etc.,.
Encourage Kids to get Jobs as Newspaper-Carriers, etc.,!
One of the only jobs that kids 9 years of can even get, it helps to teach kids the importance of managing finances and puts into context the financial responsibility involved. Kids can also try the side job that local business might offer, maybe sweeping, cleaning, just learning a new skill is great!
thanks for reading this little miscellaneous blog post! More details to come on each and every single aspect. This Tuesday, we will start on the basics. lets go Mississauga!
